SETTING UP YOUR EMAIL ON AN IPhone

How to set up an email account on your iPhone
1. Select “SETTINGS” on the home screen of your iPhone

2. Select “MAIL, CONTACTS, CALENDARS”

3. Select “ADD ACCOUNT”

4. On the Add Account page select “OTHER”

5. Select “ADD MAIL ACCOUNT”

6. On the “NEW ACCOUNT” page fill in the details of your account. Details include:
a. Name: the name you wish to display when you send emails from the phone
b. Address: your full email address
c. Password: your email password
d. Description: how you would like this account listed in your phone’s email accounts list

7. Once you have entered the details select “SAVE”. The iPhone will attempt to automatically retrieve the server settings, but this will not work so you will need to add them manually. The first thing is to select “POP” as the mail account type.

8. Once POP has been selected scroll down the page and type in the following details:

Incoming Mail Server:

  • Hostname: mail.(typeinyourdomainname).com.au
  • Username: this is your full email address (your email address may already be visible)
  • Password: the password supplied to you with your email address (this may already be in field)
Outgoing Mail Server (you need to get these details from Internet Service Provider):
  • Hostname: e.g. mail.yoursip.com (this is the iPhones internet service provider, e.g. mail.optus.com.au, mail.bigpond.com)
  • Username: only if provided by your provider
  • Password: only if provided by your provider

9. Select “SAVE”. The iPhone will then ask if you want to set the account up without SSL. Select “YES”.

10. Your email account is now set up- CONGRATULATIONS. You should now see your email account in the accounts list.

11. By default the iPhone will leave email messages on the server after a POP send/receive. This setting should not be changed otherwise your emails will not be downloaded on your main computer.
